Winter Blues getting you down? Reach out to Community Resources and Support

South Auckland is a hub of community spirit, and there are resources available to assist families during the colder months. Local community groups often offer free or low-cost activities and support programs that can help you survive your winter blues and stress.

Community Resource Suggestions
  1. Food Banks: These can provide essential food to help stretch your budget further and add some staple foods to your pantry to survive through the winter months. Reach out to your local food bank or visit your local CAB to find out where to find help. Visit your nearest budgeting service who can offer free help and can refer you to your local food bank.
  2. Community Workshops: Engage in free workshops that teach budgeting, cooking, and other life skills that can help you manage your budget through the winter months. There are free online articles and information that can help you get started.
  3. Social Groups: Join your local community Facebook page or group to share resources, tips and support with neighbours and also keep up to date with free services, events and help in your local community.
  4. Health Clinics: Local clinics often offer free or low-cost health checks and vaccinations. Keeping up with these can help prevent illnesses during the winter months, reducing the likelihood of sick kids and parents.
  5. Seasonal Produce Swaps:  Participate in local produce swaps where you can trade goods like lemons, which are in season during winter, for other fruits and vegetables. This encourages healthy eating and reduces food costs. You can find your local swap online or visit your local library for more information.
Winter doesn't have to be a burden on your budget. By planning meals, shopping smart, and taking advantage of community resources, you can keep your family warm and well-nourished without breaking the bank. Remember, you are not alone, and the community of South Auckland is here to support you. Stay warm, stay positive, and embrace the beauty of the winter season with confidence and creativity.
